Each year, in India, more people die because of infectious diseases than any other illness. Yet, the country has a dismal number of laboratories catering exclusively to infectious disease diagnostics.
Infectious Disease diagnostics covers lab disciplines of microbiology, molecular biology and serology. Most of the above disciplines are labour-intensive requiring trained manpower, are capital-intensive requiring good quality costly instrumentation and are space-intensive requiring adequate safety precautions for the staff and surroundings.
Add to this, is the general lack of awareness regarding the availability, usage & interpretation of newer diagnostic tests. Emergence of resistance amongst various pathogens due to indiscriminate use of antibiotics, also indicates widespread circumventing of lab diagnosis in favour of empirical therapies. This also reflects in the skewed data available regarding this disease segment.

Meet Our Founder
Lotus Microbiologycs is headed by Dr. Shirish Malvankar, an MD in Microbiology, with a vast 20+ years’ cross-industry experience (including Lab Management, Clinical Research, Quality Assurance, Laboratory Accreditation, Diagnostic Product Development, Product Management and Journal Review). In the past, he has worked at some of the premiere medical institutions in the country such as Nair Hospital, KEM Hospital and headed the Microbiology & Infectious Serology division at SRL Diagnostics. He is also a Lead Assessor with NABL.
At Lotus Microbiologycs, Dr. Shirish heads a strong team of microbiologists, medical lab technologists, medical sales professionals and customer care executives that cater to our ever-expanding client base of clinicians / hospitals / laboratories / patients who avail of our infectious disease diagnostics services.
Infectious Disease Labs must offer a hybrid of old & new methodologies to stay relevant to the current needs of the medical fraternity.
Lotus Microbiologycs aims to become a leading provider of quality infectious disease diagnostics tests for the medical fraternity and patients in the Mumbai Metropolitan area. Based out of Thane, the geographical areas of operations in phase 1 include Thane, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar, Kalyan-Dombivli & Ambarnath-Ulhasnagar. The plan for phase 2 expansions would include the nearby cities of Nasik, Pune and rest of Maharashtra, thereafter.
